Health Care Reform and Small Business

So, how much do you know about health care reform? How will it impact small businesses? It seems that a lot of folks are confused about what’s in the bill, and what’s not. As the region’s Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Council, we want to give the business community every opportunity to learn about the bill.

We’ll host a series of events related to the health care bill starting next month. Our seminars will deal with the legalities of the bill, taxes and insurance. Our first seminar will touch on the issue of mandatory health insurance and what it means from a legal perspective. It’s a hot topic that you don’t want to miss.

We recently surveyed small businesses members on their perspectives of the health care bill. Read on for some results.

From what we’ve heard, there are lots of unanswered questions and confusion about the health care bill and what it means for small businesses. At a prior forum on health care reform, some small business members wondered if the new bill required employers to provide coverage for employees in another country. Others asked if they will be able to continue to provide a stipend for their employees to choose health care coverage. This confusion can lead to small business leaders taking fewer steps to expand their business and create new jobs.

We don’t have all the answers here at GSI. We’re trying to connect our members with the experts in order to lessen the confusion surrounding the bill. Our members and the greater business community deserve access to as much information as possible.
