Ag Expo & Farm Forum Celebrate AgriBusiness

Ag Expo_5_webAgribusiness has long been a cornerstone of our region and the state’s economy. Washington is second only to California in the number of agricultural commodities produced – over 230!

Greater Spokane Incorporated is committed to helping grow jobs and business investment in this industry – it’s about production, growers and suppliers, and it’s also about supporting and valuing the industry that feeds the world’s population.

New industries have emerged and other industries have expanded, providing Spokane and the Inland Northwest a diverse group of businesses and an economy not dependent upon one or two key industries. Agriculture and agribusiness are key drivers to a strong economy, and that’s why the AgriBusiness Council of Greater Spokane Incorporated joined forces with Visit Spokane to designate the first week in February as Ag Week in Spokane.

2015_AgExpo-Crowd-3The 38th Annual Spokane Ag Expo and 61st Annual Pacific Northwest Farm Forum happened in Spokane February 3-5, as part of the region’s Ag Week celebration. This annual event is the only show of its kind in the area and it attracts thousands of people from all over the region — with an estimated economic impact of $10 million. Attendees enjoyed the additional space afforded by the newly completed expansion work at the Spokane Convention Center that made room for more booths, more exhibits and more events!

Thousands of people from all over the region came to see the latest and greatest in the ag industry, and hundreds took time to learn about new procedures that could make a real difference in their work.

Here are a few highlights:

  • Information sessions at the Farm Forum covered everything from international trade and farm bill updates to weed control and bookkeeping.
  • The Second Annual Excellence in Agriculture Award was given to Senator Mark Schoesler, in recognition of his significant and positive influence on the agricultural industry in the Inland Northwest. Liberty FFA was also honored with the Excellence in Agriculture Award, in the Youth category, for their positive work and dedication to the Inland Northwest’s ag industry.
  • The Expo offered a high school career fair to increase the awareness of professional opportunities available within the agribusiness sector.

We’re already looking forward to new year’s show. Stay tuned for more details!
