Business Barometer: Inflation remains mostly a “non-issue”

Business Barometer is a quarterly GSI publication that highlights significant economic indicators for the greater-Spokane region, as told by four local economists. The blog series contains eight posts; you’re reading post #7.

Q1 2015-CPIInflation is slightly lower than a year ago, 0.75% compared to 0.88%.

There’s not much new to say about the inflation rate, according to our local economists, although Steve Scranton, chief investment officer for Washington Trust Bank points out, “the cost of what people HAVE to buy is growing faster than the cost of what people WANT to buy.”

Avista Chief Economist Grant Forsyth says, “even excluding lower energy prices, there is still no inflationary pressure.”
