Dr. Doug Hartley, Commercial Specialist at the U.S. Embassy in Canberra, recently visited Spokane and met with local companies about export opportunities in Australia. As a democratic nation with a strong rule of law and similar business practices to the U.S., Australia is an ideal market for new-to-export companies.
Australia is the 17th largest export destination for Washington, and 14th for the U.S. as a whole. While many export opportunities exist in Australia, its strong mining and agriculture industries as well as expanding military sector are current areas of note. Australia was the world’s 7th largest importer of defense equipment from 2008-2012.
During his time in Spokane Dr. Hartley met with manufacturers interested in expanding their market in Australia and those looking to enter it for the first time. His industry sector specialties include: aerospace & defense, agricultural equipment & services, food processing & packaging, marine industries, and security & safety.
