GSI Statement on the Air Force Decision to Place Fairchild Among Five Final Candidates for the KC-46A Tanker

MSF11-0054-02Greater Spokane Incorporated is thrilled with the decision made by the Air Force to place Fairchild Air Force Base among the final five candidates for the KC-46A Tanker. Fairchild Air Force Base, with its strategic location, has the extensive infrastructure, the proximity to joint users, and the incredible operational and logistic talent to support the tankers. GSI and its Forward Fairchild committee have been advocating for Fairchild Air Force Base to be the next base for assigning the tankers. We will continue to advocate on behalf of Fairchild, our region’s largest single-site employer, to be the next operational site to beddown the KC-46A.

  1. Greg Martin says:

Does anyone have any idea of which bases were the other 4 candidates? Also, did they give a timeline as to when they think the decision will be made?

  2. Hi Greg, The other candidates are Dover AFB (Dover, DE), Grand Forks AFB (Grand Forks, ND), Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (Wrightstown, NJ) and Travis AFB (Fairfield, CA).

Next steps include visits with each base sometime this summer to conduct on-the-ground reviews and gather information that will be scored and presented to the Secretary of the Air Force for a decision on a preferred and reasonable alternatives, tentatively by the end of this year.
