Legislative Forum highlights key political issues

Legislative Forum and ReceptionEach year, Greater Spokane Incorporated provides an opportunity for the Spokane regional business community to network with elected state legislators.

At the Legislative Forum and Reception, businesses can hear candid insight from key legislative leaders as they get ready for the 2018 session. These topics are often pressing issues facing the state that may impact your business and the future of our state.

Currently, Sen. Mark Schoesler, Sen. Andy Billig, Rep. Larry Springer, and Rep. Mike Volz have confirmed their attendance for this year’s event. We’ll update our events page as more legislators join us.

In the most recent election, Democrats received enough votes to receive the majority in the state Senate. This could impact a number of projects discussed during the past session. Additionally, how the legislature handles the Hirst water decision could directly impact agriculture and other small businesses.

Approval of the state’s capital budget is still in-question, and is currently contingent on the Hirst decision, and takes a supermajority of 60 percent to pass. This means, in order to move forward, it will still require collaboration between the two major political parties.

The 2018 State Legislative Priority Agenda, which will be distributed at the program, will include topics that address the business climate in Washington state, education, health care, transportation, and the state budget.
