GSI Supports Upcoming Capital Levy and Bonds

(SPOKANE, Wash.) –Greater Spokane Incorporated’s (GSI) Board of Trustees voted last week to support both the East Valley School District Capital Levy and the School District & City Facility Improvement Partnership Projects on the November 6 ballot.

The East Valley School District Capital Levy is for safety and security improvements, building improvements, and field relocation. The two-year, $13,064,000 levy will be collected in 2019 and 2020.

The School District & City Facility Improvement Partnership Projects is made up of the Spokane Public Schools bond, the City of Spokane Library bond and an advisory vote. Tax rates are expected to decrease by $2.20 per $1,000 of assessed value in 2019; this bond proposal would utilize 98 cents and give the remaining $1.22 back to taxpayers.

The Spokane Public Schools bond is to build three new middle schools, replace three outdated middle schools, and provide facility improvements and upgrades to safety and technology. The City of Spokane Library bond is to build three new libraries and modernize four additional libraries. The City of Spokane advisory vote is to determine the location of a replacement stadium, either replacing Joe Albi Stadium or building near the Spokane Arena.

GSI works to champion a talented workforce in the Spokane region through a variety of programs and initiatives, including leading the Education Grows Economies campaign, which supports local K-12 public school district bonds and levies. Businesses and our economy depend on a skilled and talented workforce to thrive and is one of the key factors companies look for when expanding or relocating their business.
