Growing Business through Government Contracting

8a

Greater Spokane Incorporated provides business expansion opportunities through a variety of programs. One program is the Eastern Washington Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) which provides businesses of all sizes with support to get qualified to bid on government contracts. PTAC offers assistance, at no charge, with all aspects of government contracting, including federal, state, and local entities. Support includes government registration and certification, interpretation of solicitations, classes, and marketing. GSI’s PTAC is one of eight sub-centers in Washington, and is currently serving 12 counties.

In the past year, our PTAC office worked with 218 clients throughout the 12-county region. This included almost 500 hours of counseling and education, in addition to more than 26 workshops on contracting with the government.

PTAC Client Beacon Services, Inc. – Mr. and Mrs. Hi Bum Kim, arrived in the United States from Korea in August of 1974. They earned their citizenship five years later in June of 1979.  Beacon Services started with an 8(a) Certification Program created to help small, disadvantaged businesses compete in the marketplace. Mr. Kim recently said, “The 8(a) program has helped me successfully expand my business through government contracting, including the recent announcement of a large award from Fairchild Air Force Base”.

Launched in 1977, Beacon Services is headquartered in Spokane, WA. The company has expanded their operations to include other locations in Yakima and Grand Coulee, and they currently have 160 employees. Beacon Services provides dry cleaning, janitorial and landscaping services.
