Optimistic about Spokane

Last fall, the City of Spokane held an interactive town hall meeting, with thousands of Spokane citizens joining the conversation over the phone, the web, and on social media. We asked these citizens to tell us if they were optimistic about Spokane’s future, and a very strong 77 percent of respondents told us they were very or somewhat optimistic about where we are going as a community. Optimism is an interesting concept, really a feeling of hopefulness and confidence in what lies ahead.

Entering his eighth and final year at the helm of the City, Mayor David Condon will explore what makes him—and our community—optimistic about Spokane during his annual State of the City Address.  When we are optimistic, we dream bigger and deliver more.  From business and economic growth to revitalization in the core of the City and beyond to improved safety, health and compassion, Spokane is on a roll.

Meet the Speaker:

Mayor David A. Condon, City of Spokane

Born the same year that Spokane was preparing to shine on the global stage at Expo '74, Mayor David A. Condon grew up in a community that was safe for families, fertile for businesses, and naturally stunning. After David graduated Gonzaga Prep, he went on to earn his bachelor's degree in Finance and Military Science from Boston College. The first re-elected Mayor in Spokane in more than 40 years, Mayor Condon remains focused on many key initiatives which began during his first term – all aimed at making Spokane safer, stronger, and smarter. These include making investments in public safety, growing jobs, and our economy, promoting a successful budget, improving Spokane's infrastructure, and increasing the quality of life.

Prior to becoming Mayor of the second largest city in Washington, Mayor Condon's distinguished professional career included serving in the United States Army, owning and operating small businesses, and serving as the Senior Staff in the US House of Representatives. David and his wife Kristin are thrilled to be raising their three children near many of their family members in Spokane – which was recently named an All-America City for the third time. He is committed to making sure Spokane grows and remains the City of Choice.
