The Community Colleges of Spokane is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Adjunct Nursing Skills Lab Assistant in the Health and Environmental Sciences Division at Spokane Community College.

The part-time Nursing Skills Laboratory Assistant reports to the Associate Dean of Nursing and is responsible for the organization of the nursing labs at Spokane Community College. Duties include keeping the labs organized and ensuring equipment is accounted for, accessible and secure. This individual is responsible for completion of clerical duties which support the efficient operation of the labs such as ordering of supplies, scheduling, keeping track of and maintaining equipment. This position collaborates and works closely with other Nursing Skills Laboratory Assistants and the Laboratory Coordinator.

The Nursing Skills Laboratory Assistant assists with managing the simulation room and mannequin set up and take down, application of moulage, and recording of simulations. Running computer equipment to assist with simulations is also part of the job responsibilities. Proficiency with hardware such as a PC, video cameras and microphones is preferred. This position collaborates and works closely with the Simulation Coordinator.

The Nursing Skills Laboratory Assistant collaborates with nursing faculty members in performing duties essential to the achievement of student learning outcomes.



  • Assists with lab and simulation set up and take down.
  • Helps maintain educational resource materials, lab equipment and supplies.
  • Organizes storage areas and keeps inventory.
  • Maintains inventory:
    • Prepares supply orders
    • Ensures safe storage of all supplies including hazardous materials and practice medications.
    • Coordinates distribution of supplies to students and faculty.
  • Participates in and contributes to the upkeep of the Nursing Laboratories by:
    • Providing orientation to instructors regarding laboratory procedures, location and use of materials and the operation of equipment.
    • Recommending and performing general cleaning of the laboratories.
    • Recommending and/or performing maintenance and repairs of equipment in the laboratories.
  • Contributes to a safe laboratory environment by:
    • Keeping current with safety regulations.
    • Checking and maintaining safety equipment.
    • Providing training and enforcement of safety procedures to individuals including faculty, staff, and students using the laboratories.
  • May provide supervision to work study students.
  • Program software to model simulator's physiological responses to instructor specifications.
  • Support/assist in role playing applications, prop placement and moulage set-up before and after simulations to create a virtual healthcare setting.
  • Operations simulation mannequin sessions based on priority identified by the simulation faculty.
  • Assist with training faculty in the use of simulation equipment.
  • Operates audio/visual equipment used in simulation.
  • Records video of simulation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Experience using simulation equipment.
  • Nursing background (LPN or RN).



This is an adjunct (part-time) position. Compensation will be pro-rated according to the amount of workload assigned. CCS reserves the right to cancel this recruitment without notice. Academic employees are represented by the Association of Higher Education (AHE), which is affiliated with NEA and WEA. Membership is optional.
