The Community Colleges of Spokane is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Center Manager - Newport in the Student Services Division at Spokane Community College.

Under the direction of the Vice President of Student Services, the Newport Center Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of SCC's Newport and Ione Centers. This position is responsible for identifying community needs, ensuring students are processed correctly for classes, and for working with and assisting instructional departments with student service needs to help improve student achievement. The Center Manager must work collaboratively with on and off-campus SCC student services staff, instructional departments, and district personnel and will serve as a member of the student services leadership team.



  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Newport and Ione Centers providing services to SCC students in Newport and Ione. Responsibilities include: providing information to the public; processing admissions, testing, registration, and financial aid documentation; and processing distance learning materials and instructor communications in order to maintain the center's mission of providing educational services in Newport and Ione and improving student achievement. *
  • Identify community needs and ensure that services provided meet those community needs. Work with instructional departments, marketing, and public relations to recruit, market and advertise services e.g. catalogs, brochures, web page and other materials. *
  • Provide information to instructional personnel, staff, and students regarding services, policies and procedures. Provide information to prospective students and members of the community on centers and CCS programs, services, resources, etc. *
  • Supervise (train, schedule, evaluate and recommend selection and disciplinary action) classified, part-time hourly, work-study, and temporary employees. Adhere to the classified collective bargaining agreement, and all district rules and regulations ensuring efficient operations of the centers. *
  • Inform and educate staff about behavior and performance expectations, provide timely and accurate feedback regarding performance, and ensure performance and behavioral problems are corrected promptly and effectively. *
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the centers' budgets. Review estimates and approve expenditures following CCS' 'Delegation of Contracting Authority' procedures ensuring fiscal responsibility of the budget/monies. *
  • Develop and maintain relationships with education institutions, community organizations and local government representatives and represent the centers by delivering public presentations, attending meetings and other contacts with the public as appropriate. *
  • Develop and manage information systems and records management with respect to students and programs so accurate information can be obtained for internal/external reports, communications, and budgets. *
  • Support and advance the CCS and SCC strategic plans, and perform other duties as assigned. *

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Administration or a related field from an accredited institution. Or an equivalent mix of education and experience that demonstrates the candidate meets all competency requirements for this position.
  • Two (2) years experience in program management.
  • Ability to supervise employees.
  • Ability to collect, and interpret data for reports and to project trends.
  • Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing.
  • Effective interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to use computerized information/software in an office environment.
  • Knowledge of managing budgets and writing grants.
  • Acceptance of the responsibility to promote the welfare and best interests of students at all times.
  • A demonstrable understanding and acceptance of the mission, values, goals and objectives of CCS.
  • The ability to perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and goals of the institution, community and technical college system.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and supporting a teaching, learning and working environment that honors diversity, equity and inclusion.





  • Program management experience in a higher education environment.
  • Knowledge of college/department procedures.
  • Experience working with Veterans.


* TOTAL COMPENSATION: $72,018- $74,670.
Total compensation is an estimate based upon base compensation, current employer-paid health and related benefit contribution rates and median retirement fund contributions. The actual total will vary depending upon each employee's enrollment choices.

Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment.
