Are you a self-starter with extensive leadership, management, and analytical experience in administration of personnel programs? Do you have experience in job analysis, job classification, recruitment, and employment testing? Our Chief Examiner's responsibilities include supervisory and professional work in the administration and direction of the City's Civil Service merit employment system, which covers over 2,000 employees in more than 300 job classes. As Chief Examiner, you will oversee Civil Service's broad recruitment and examining program and position classification plan, devising new methods in accordance with Civil Service rules and regulations, and formulating departmental administrative policies and procedures.
The Chief Examiner works under the policy direction of the Civil Service Commission and assumes full responsibility for the actions of the department. You will act as secretary to the Commission, running their monthly public meetings and hearings. You will investigate appeals of employment actions for the Commission. You will provide a coordinating, counseling, and advisory service to all City departments and employees, as well as multiple bargaining units, in the uniform application of Civil Service rules and regulations. You will hire and supervise the Civil Service staff, currently a group of eight employees.
