Job Description:

The individual for this role works well independently to accomplish tasks and can seamlessly shift to very collaborative work. GSI uses a variety of websites, electronic media (social, newsletters, blogs, etc) to convey its mission of developing a business-minded community that focuses on the health of our regional business. The overall work is divided across the team, supporting each other to produce error-free writing, story development and support for a variety of communications and advocacy materials that deliver value to GSI’s constituencies, including its investors, the Board of Trustees, government & elected officials and the broader Spokane region.

The individual is an exceptional communicator and cares about language, tone and messaging. This individual take personal pride in the work he or she produces on behalf of GSI.

This individual needs to have excellent time management and interpersonal skills, and must have the ability to translate stories into compelling and influencing digital, print and other media. This person is great with technology and has the technical aptitude to self-learn and be curious about options to communicate a message. This person understands the value of media, placement, outreach and dissemination, and can tell the difference between a “newsy” item or story and how it reflects the GSI brand and mission.

This role is responsible for:

Maintaining social media accounts regularly with timely and engaging content that educates the community about the value of GSI, the organization’s advocacy work and the impact the organization has on the Spokane region. Identifies and incorporates best practices and tracks effectiveness and outcomes of communications.
Acts as communications advisor and expert to Talent, Growth and Voice teams and provides Business Partner level support for designated programs.

Provides writing, editing and story development support for a variety of communications and advocacy materials such as newsletters, press releases, blogs, social media and campaigns that delivers value to readers and resonates with key audiences.

Provides content updates to websites that adhere to the GSI brand and provides effective content that sparks interest with readership.

Assists with media relations outreach activities that results in positive media placement.
Provides photography assistance at GSI events and for various communications mediums that enhances visual imagery and successful storytelling.

Creates, maintains, and follows social media and newsletter editorial planning calendars to support an organized and proactive approach to social media communications, working with internal partners to plan story placement opportunities.

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in marketing and/or communications related degree or a minimum of two years related experience is required.

Demonstrated experience and knowledge of social media marketing techniques is required.

Demonstrated experience in a variety of writing styles including persuasive writing is required.

Certificates and Licenses: Valid driver’s license.
Computer Skills: Technology savvy and proficient using Microsoft Office suite, CRM Software, social media sites and internet.
