The Community Colleges of Spokane is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Custodian 1 in the Facilities Division. This is a full-time (12 month / 40 hrs/week) permanent position. Perform a variety of custodial assignments to maintain cleanliness of CCS facilities. May need to travel to CCS sites through out Spokane and Northeastern Washington.



  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms and common areas. Change light bulbs and replenish supplies such as toilet paper, soap products, paper towels and etc. *
  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors; shampoo carpets; and strip, clean, buff, and apply floor finish to floors. *
  • Empty wastebaskets, trash, and recycle containers; empty and clean ashtrays and cigarette urns. May need to drive a vehicle to pick-up trash. *
  • Maintain building entries, stairs, ramps and walkways by removing debris, snow and ice. *
  • Set-up and take down equipment for meetings, classrooms, and events such as easels, chalkboards, chairs, tables and etc. *
  • Maintain and reorder adequate stock of custodial supplies. *
  • Clean equipment at conclusion of use and maintain equipment in good working order. *
  • Lock and unlock buildings when requested; secure buildings when facilities are not in use by checking for unlocked doors and windows; report unauthorized occupants. *
  • Report the need for repair or maintenance of buildings to supervisors. *
  • May need to drive a vehicle to pick up trash.
  • Move furniture and equipment on an incidental basis.
  • May perform ice and snow removal, de-icing and sanding, on sidewalks, parking lots and roads as assigned.
  • Support and advance the CCS strategic plan, and perform other duties as assigned. *

  • Ability to perform cleaning duties specific to the Community Colleges of Spokane.
  • Knowledge of custodial chemicals and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Ability to work both independently and a as a member of a team.
  • Ability to work alternate shifts.

Total compensation is an estimate based upon base compensation, current employer-paid health and related benefit contribution rates and median retirement fund contributions. The actual total will vary depending upon each employee's enrollment choices.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - Determined from the Working Conditions Analysis form (on file)



  • Frequent kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing and twisting.
  • Work requires long periods of standing and walking.
  • Move up to 25 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Frequent repetitive hand/wrist motions and finger manipulation.
  • Requires communication ability necessary to understand instructions and recognize hazardous, unsafe or poisonous materials and/or products.
  • Occasional exposure to fumes, dust, and/or odors.
  • Respiratory equipment used that may require adherence to applicable safety rules and standards.




  • Full-time schedule (12-month, 40-hours a week).
  • 6-month probationary period; may be extended up to 12 months.
  • This position is overtime eligible.
  • Requires local or regional travel. If using personal vehicle proof of driver's license and car insurance required.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator license required.
  • Criminal background check required.
  • Position is covered by collective bargaining agreement.
