The Community Colleges of Spokane is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Electrician (MM2) in the District Facilities division.

GENERAL DEFINITION
Under general direction, as a member of a team this position is responsible for working on Work Orders, Preventive Maintenance and Building Improvement Request (BIR) projects. This position will perform journey level electrical work for high voltage systems up to 750 volts as well as a variety of other skilled trade work for CCS sites located in Spokane and Northeastern Washington. Work may include projects such as: installing new electrical equipment and services; building office spaces; moving walls, partitions, repair equipment, replace motors, lighting, clocks, fire alarm systems motor controls, internal doors, windows, and etc.; perform minor paint projects; and work with/assist specific journey trade workers when necessary e.g. HVAC, plumbing, etc.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • As a member of a team, perform skilled work in electrical construction, maintenance, modifying, or repairing buildings via Work Orders, Preventive Maintenance, Building Improvement Requests with an emphasis on Work Order and Preventive Maintenance projects. Initiate layout and job planning; evaluate, diagnose and make repairs or install new equipment and electrical systems up to 750 volts. *
  • Perform other BIR project work such as: building office spaces; moving walls, partitions, internal doors, windows, and etc.; performing minor paint projects; and work with/assist specific journey trade workers when necessary e.g. HVAC, plumbing, etc as required. *
  • Coordinate with administrators, contractors and other trades to implement projects. Assist other trades in completion of maintenance and upgrade projects as needed. *
  • Develop cost estimates for projects; purchase supplies and equipment staying within project cost limits. *
  • Read and evaluate building plans and specifications. Document electrical modifications and completion of projects; maintain files as required. *
  • Clean, service, adjust and store tools and equipment. *
  • Operate motorized equipment such as automobiles, light trucks, small tractors, front-end loaders, dump trucks, forklifts, trenchers, trailers, and snow removal equipment. *
  • Support and advance the CCS strategic plan, and perform other duties as assigned. *

COMPETENCIES & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS)

 

 

  • Washington State Electrician License - EL01 License.
  • Knowledge of electrical and building codes.
  • Experience in general building construction and repair.
  • Knowledge of chemicals and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Able to read and interpret instructions on SDS.
  • Ability to communicate in English.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to set own work priorities.
  • Ability to work alternate shifts.
  • Acceptance of the responsibility to promote the welfare and best interests of students at all times.
  • A demonstrable understanding and acceptance of the mission, values, goals and objectives of CCS.
  • The ability to perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and goals of the institution, and community and technical college system.

PREFERRED COMPETENCIES (DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS)

 

 

  • Ability to understand electrical layout and needs in a large commercial setting.
  • Experience working for a government or higher education institution.
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as an electrician; OR full journey status as an electrician.
  • Four years of applicable work experience.


CONDITIONS/TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
* TOTAL COMPENSATION: $72,251.
Total compensation is an estimate based upon base compensation, current employer-paid health and related benefit contribution rates and median retirement fund contributions. The actual total will vary depending upon each employee's enrollment choices.

Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment.   • Enters, crouches, twists, works and climbs in and out of confined spaces.
  • Extension of arms overhead for sustained periods.
  • Occasional to frequent change in position from sedentary, standing, stooping and walking.
  • Frequent oral and auditory communication with others.
  • Requires communication ability necessary to understand instructions and recognize hazardous, unsafe or poisonous materials and/or products.
  • Occasional exposure to fumes, dust, odors and/or biohazards.
  • Respiratory equipment used that may require adherence to applicable safety rules and standards.

  • Position is eligible for overtime
  • May be required to work alternate shifts
  • Washington State Electrician License - EL01 License
  • 6 month probationary period; may be extended to 12 months
  • Requires criminal background check
  • Requires a valid drivers' license
  • Ability to travel locally as well as occasional out-of-town travel
  • If using personal vehicle for travel proof of driver's license and car insurance required
  • Position is designated a bargaining unit position
