The Community Colleges of Spokane is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Instruction and Classroom Support Technician 2 in the Extended Learning Division at Spokane Community College.

GENERAL DEFINITION
Under general supervision of the Vocational Upholstery Instructor, this position performs faculty and student support duties for the Airway Heights Corrections Center (AHCC) Vocational Upholstery Education Program, located within the AHCC institutional facility. Responsibilities include: prepare material and equipment for use in instruction for upholstery classes; assist students in course work assignments and assist instructors in presenting course material(s) to students; maintain, service, order, inventory, repair, or rebuild existing equipment and apparatus as needed; and maintain storage and receive materials and supplies used in classes; ensuring safe operation of the tool room through inventory and tool control.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Prepare material and equipment for use in instruction for upholstery classes within the Airway Heights Corrections Center institutional facility. *
  • Assist students in course work assignments and assist instructors in presenting course material(s) to students. *
  • Maintain, service, repair, alter or rebuild existing equipment and apparatus as needed; and research parts to be used in curriculum. *
  • Utilize a computerized system to order, receive and maintain a parts and equipment inventory and collection of repair orders. Ensure the tool room and laboratory areas are safe. *
  • Record and process monthly credit card statement, and make daily deposits to cashier office. *
  • Act as a safety officer liaison in the area of responsibility, maintaining areas of cleanliness. Coordinate the control of hazardous material with school officials. *
  • Support and advance the CCS strategic plan, and perform related duties as required. *

COMPETENCIES & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS)

 

 

  • Six months to two years of full-time experience/training in shipping/receiving, ordering, or estimating/appraising of furniture OR equivalent education/experience that demonstrates the candidate meets the skills and abilities for the position.
  • Must be able to complete a 6 week DOC CORE training program which includes self-defensive techniques. This training may require being away from the local area and overnight stay.
  • Ability to work in a correctional setting, which includes being searched prior to entering the facility and complying with bringing in limited personal belongings.
  • Knowledge of or experience using computers and spreadsheets, data processing, and word processing software.
  • Ability to work with individuals with different learning styles/needs and different curriculum levels.
  • Ability to maintain supplies, inventory.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Accounting, bookkeeping, or purchasing skills.
  • Acceptance of the responsibility to promote the welfare and best interests of students at all times.
  • A demonstrable understanding and acceptance of the mission, values, goals and objectives of CCS.
  • The ability to perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and goals of the institution, community and technical college system.

PREFERRED COMPETENCIES (DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS)

 

 

  • Associates degree from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in a correctional setting.
  • Experience in a technical education environment.
  • Knowledge of DOC policies, rules and regulations.


CONDITIONS/TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
* TOTAL COMPENSATION: $54,477.
Total compensation is an estimate based upon base compensation, current employer-paid health and related benefit contribution rates and median retirement fund contributions. The actual total will vary depending upon each employee's enrollment choices.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

 

  • Work directly with inmates.
  • Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) is an aerosol pepper spray made available as a means of self-defense and/or de-escalation. Applicants with sensitivities or allergies are encouraged to ask about the level of exposure they could expect in this position.
  • Occasional to frequent change in position from sedentary, standing, stooping and walking in a classroom lab environment.
  • Move up to 25 lbs. frequently and 50 lbs. occasionally in a lab environment.
  • Occasional kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing.
  • Frequent use of computer and exposure to terminal screens.
  • Visual focus and strain.
  • Frequent repetitive hand/wrist motions and finger manipulation.
  • Frequent oral and auditory communication with others.
  • Occasional exposure to fumes, dust, odors and/or biohazards.


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

 

  • Incumbent cannot be on probation or under any supervision by any court
  • Full-time schedule (12-month, 40-hours week)
  • Position is overtime eligible
  • 6-month probation period; may be extended up to 12 months
  • Criminal background check required
  • This position is designated a bargaining unit position
