Physics Instructor - Adjunct

Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC) seeks qualified candidates for consideration of employment in an adjunct (part-time) position. We seek applicants with a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner. The College strives for faculty who are content experts and who are also knowledgeable about best practices, innovative teaching strategies, and effective instructional technologies. Classes may be taught in the morning, afternoon, evenings, and online.



  • Prepare for and instruct, through traditional classroom and online education modes, transfer-level Physics classes. Including, but not limited to, conceptual, algebra, and calculus -based Physics lecture and laboratory. Assignments may include distance education modes of instruction.
  • Provide availability and accessibility to students through a combination of scheduled office hours, e-mail accessibility and other effective means of responsive and timely communication.
  • Communicate expectations and establish clear grading criteria through appropriate instructional means, to include but not limited to developing course syllabi, handouts, and materials supporting the instructional process; evaluates student progress and provide clear, timely feedback.
  • Participate in department and general faculty meetings.
  • Comply with state and federal law applicable to professional duties and responsibilities; follow established procedures in areas such as printing, turning in grades, bookstore orders, student safety and health issues and related administrative processes.


REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (Minimum Qualifications):



  • Master's degree in Physics from an accredited institution.
    Bachelor's degree in Physics from an accredited institution and a Master's degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Prior teaching experience, preferably including teaching and/or counseling of post-traditional college students including youth from underserved communities.
  • Acceptance of the responsibility to promote the welfare and best interests of students at all times.
  • A demonstrable understanding and acceptance of the mission, values, goals and objectives of CCS.
  • The ability to perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and goals of the institution, community and technical college system.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and supporting a teaching, learning and working environment that honors diversity, equity and inclusion.


PREFERRED COMPETENCIES (Desirable Qualifications):



  • Experience teaching introductory Physics courses.
  • Ability to integrate technology and diverse instructional approaches, such as online delivery, in the physics curriculum.
  • Ability to work successfully with the diverse student body found at a community college
  • Demonstrated understanding of the purpose and role of the community college



This is an adjunct (part-time) position. Compensation will be pro-rated according to the amount of workload assigned. CCS reserves the right to cancel this recruitment without notice. Academic employees are represented by the Association of Higher Education (AHE), which is affiliated with NEA and WEA. Membership is optional.
