Throughout the month of March, Jersey Mike's is collecting donations for the NICU at Sacred Heart Children's Hospital. It's part of the Month of Giving at both stores in Spokane, where customers can donate in increments of $1, $3, $5 or more when purchasing an item from the restaurant. Additionally, everything made in sales Wenesday, March 29, will be donated entirely to the NICU. Be sure to get lunch or dinner at either of the two Jersey Mike's in the Spokane area this month!
Don't miss the MAX at Mirabeau's weekly viewing parties for Fox's new hit TV show: Kicking and Screaming. This event will take place every Thursday at 8 PM until former executive officer of Fairchild Air Force Base, Terry Fossum, is no longer on the show. There will be signed pictures, door prizes, and more with no cost to attend.

Fairchild Air Force Base announces that its 92nd Medical Group will officially launch the U.S. Department of Defense's new electronic health-record system. Fairchild's medical facility will be the first in the defense deparment to pilot the new program, called Medical Health System GENESIS. To read more, click here.
The U.S. Small Business Administration is happy to announce that the Emerging Leaders (Mini MBA) Program will be here in Spokane again for 2017. The program is extremely valuable and free to selected applicants. The deadline for applications is March 1, telephone interviews are the first two weeks of March and classes begin April 4. The Inland Northwest Peace Corps Association (INPCA) invites the community to view the world through the visual arts and experiences of local Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCV’s). The INPCA exhibit opens as a part of the Downtown Spokane First Friday Art Walk, March 3, 5:00 pm to 8 p.m., at Express Employment Professionals, 331 West Main Street and will be available through the end of March during normal business hours. This exhibit is part of the nationwide 56th anniversary celebration of the founding of the Peace Corps. Eastern Washington University announced it is part of a statewide $3 million collaboration grant from the National Science Foundation to help improve the next generation of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) teacher-preparation programs in Washington. The grant, which is funded over a four-year period, will enable multiple state partners to work together to anticipate and identify the needs future teachers will face, and provide effective support for those teachers.
BECU celebrated the opening of its first Spokane-area branches by giving back to the community, in partnership with Spokane Neighborhood Action Partners (SNAP). The credit union awarded $5,000 grants to Cutthree local businesses selected from SNAP’s small business and entrepreneurship development program. Recipients of the SNAP Forward grants include A&J Transportation, Kitchen Spokane, and Anvil Welding Instruction. For more information, read BECU’s press release.
The College Success Foundation - Spokane is looking for adult mentors for the class of 2017 CSF Achievers Scholars at Ferris, Lewis and Clark, North Central, Rogers and Shadle Park high schools. It is a commitment of one hour, one day a month meeting with seniors at school. There are 217 CSF Achievers Scholars this year who will appreciate your guidance as they write their personal statements, apply to colleges, complete their FAFSA applications, apply for scholarships and seek perspective on the college experience. Most students are the first in their family to attend college and your perspective is invaluable. CSF provides training and a comprehensive discussion guide for each session. The University of Washington School of Medicine (UWSOM) and Gonzaga University announce the medical school again ranks No. 1 in the nation for primary care education in the latest U.S. News and World Report 'Best Graduate Schools,' 2018 edition. This is the 23rd time in the 24 years of this U.S. News ranking category that it has held the No. 1 primary care position.
The University of Washington School of Medicine and Gonzaga University recently celebrated the first anniversary of the Regional Health Partnership, an initiative to advance medical education and research in the Spokane Region. Southwest Airlines Co. was recentlyu named to FORTUNE's 2017 list of the World's Most Admired Companies. Southwest ranks #8, and is the only commercial airline among the Top 10. This is Southwest's 23rd consectuive year on the list.
UW CoMotion, the University of Washington's collaborative innovation hub, expands to Spokane! The expansion of CoMotion services will connect the region's vibrant startup community more fully with western Washington by bringing UW resources, assets, tools, and networks to the region. CoMotion also announced that it has hired Brady Ryan as the CoMotion Labs @ Spokane manager. We look forward to the opportunities this will bring to our region!
Raymond Lawton was named the 2016 Lewis Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award recipient by the Printing Industries of America. The award honors business leaders who have made major, long-term contributions to the graphic arts industry and have been a force in shaping the business of printed communications. Lawton is chairman of Lawton Printing Services in Spokane. He is also the vice president of File-EZ Folder Co. and co-owner of Rempeltes & Lawton LLC.
Bernardo|Wills Architects welcomes their newest hires. Lauren Welsh, Associate IIDA, and Dillon M. Reese, AIAS, have joined as an interior designer and a BIM/CAD technician, respectively.
BumbleBar, Inc. recently announced that the company's CEO, Liz Ward, completed the U.S. Small Business Administration's (SBA) 2016 Emerging Leaders Initiative. Liz began the seven-month program in April of this year. Since the SBA started offering the Emerging Leaders program in various locations across the country, graduates have created more than 2,400 new full-time jobs, accessed more than $73 million in new financing, and secured federal, state, local and tribal contracts worth more than $1 billion. GSI member, Itron Inc., recently signed a contract with Provo Water Co. to upgrade the company's water metering system on the Providenciales Island, which is part of the Turks and Caicos Islands in the Caribbean Sea. Itron's system is expected to give Provo Water greater insights into its distribution system and improve meter reading efficiency.

Lawton Printing recently awarded scholarships to four of 46 local students for their work in designing multi-page booklets that highlight environmental initiatives within the printing industry. Kevin J. Curtis of Winston & Cashatt, Lawyers is the recipient of the Champion of Innocence Award from the Innocence Project Northwest. Kevin worked toward the exoneration and exoneration of a wrongly convicted client who served almost 6 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. It is great to have someone like Kevin represent our community and to have Winston & Cashatt, Lawyers as a member with us here at GSI.
Josh Neblett, co-founder and CEO of Etailz Inc., has been named by Ernst & Young Global Ltd. as a finalist for the EY Entrepreneur of teh Year 2016 Award in the Pacific Northwest.
