Advocating for the Spokane Region

Each February, GSI and a delegation of businesses and community leaders go to Olympia, WA to ensure the voices of Spokane and the Inland Northwest are heard loud and clear in our state’s capital. This year’s 2025 State Agenda is here, and it’s a unified, collaborative blueprint for advancing the projects and policies that will shape our region’s future. The Agenda was launched at this year’s Legislative Forum & Reception, an annual event that helps kick off the upcoming Legislative Session.

Why Does Our State Agenda Matter?

The projects in the State Agenda aren’t just about infrastructure or education—they’re about building a strong, sustainable future for your business and our community. From workforce development initiatives to critical infrastructure upgrades, each agenda item directly impacts our ability to attract new talent, grow existing industries, and create a vibrant, thriving economy.

For example, investments in transportation infrastructure reduce shipping costs and commuting times, making it easier for Spokane businesses to thrive in a competitive market. Similarly, funding for education and workforce training ensures a steady pipeline of skilled workers—a key factor in meeting today’s economic demands. And of course, advocating for a business-friendly climate is a top priority to support new jobs and business investment in the region.

Here is the Agenda and its Priorities

Legislators ask us to prioritize projects for our region, so GSI asks the community to submit top projects and works with the more than 80 business and community members on its Regional Advocacy Committee to create a unified Agenda. This Agenda is taken to Olympia each year where our delegation meets with lawmakers and advocates for Spokane regional interests. This year’s top priorities address Business Climate and Taxation, Attainable Housing, Meeting our Transportation Obligations, and supporting a School Psychology Compact. Our focus is to advance policies that invest in our region and make it easier to start and grow our local business community.

The Power of Regional Collaboration

One of the greatest strengths of our advocacy is that it’s regional. By presenting a unified voice, we amplify the needs of the Inland Northwest. This approach shows legislators that Spokane is organized, focused, and serious about securing the resources we need to succeed. Members of our Regional Advocacy Committee and Association Partners Downtown Spokane Partnership and Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce were critical to the Agenda development and prioritization process.
