Fair Chance Hiring Forum: March 8

Fair Chance Hiring, also known as “Ban the Box” is an employment practice policy that removes barriers to employment for applicants with arrest or criminal conviction records. This policy eliminates the box that requires applicants to disclose their criminal background on job applications.

Next Tuesday, March 8, the Spokane City Council will host an educational community forum on Fair Chance Hiring, moderated by District Court Judge Richard Leland. The forum will include a presentation by Washington State University Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology, Center for Justice, and a panel of business owners, ex-offenders, and employment agency representatives.

GSI’s CEO, Todd Mielke, will participate on the panel and we encourage you to attend and join the conversation. Attendees can provide questions and comments regarding Fair Chance Hiring Policies which will be added to a final report published by the Spokane City Council.

More information about Fair Chance Hiring can be found on the City’s website.
