According to Coyote presented by Spokane Ensemble Theatre
Spokane Ensemble Theatre is presenting According to Coyote by John Kauffman, in partnership with One Heart Native Arts and Film Festival and Red Eagle Soaring. This production, featuring Coyote, the legendary hero of American Indian mythology, is an encounter with the richness and vitality of Native American culture using age-old traditions of music, dance, and theatre. The performance will take place on October 16th at 2:00pm at the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture. Directed by the playwright’s niece, Josephine Keefe, and performed by Nez Perce actor, Kellen Lewis, this one-man show is a testament to storytelling and family history. Featuring a vibrant and entertaining anthology of tales, this show highlights the cultural importance of monodramatic storytelling. It returns to the roots of performance: a relationship between the actor and audience, and explores all these stories through music, dance, and theatre. This show is also a part of a long-standing family tradition, and director Josephine Keefe is thrilled to bring this story to Spokane, fueled by continued collaboration between organizations that have been touched by her uncle’s legacy.
Spokane Ensemble Theatre was newly founded in 2021 with the promise of bringing to the Spokane community a professional theatre company that inspires and engages audiences with the diverse and thought-provoking stories which encompass the human condition.
