This June 11th, EWU’s Exercise Science Club is organizing our second annual 5K walk/run/roll in honor of Sativa Transue who was an alumnus of our program. Sativa was born in Spokane and moved to Cheney at the age of 12. She graduated from Cheney High, where she was voted the student with the Most Contagious Laugh. Sativa went on to earn her Bachelor in Exercise Science from EWU where she graduated in 2017. Her mother shared that Sativa loved life, her family and friends, her cat Flower and dog Shadow, and being outside in nature. Tragically, Sativa lost her life to domestic violence in 2021 while on a holiday vacation. She was only 25 years old.

The Exercise Science Club began the tradition of a memorial 5K in order to raise funds and awareness for domestic violence. This year, we are raising money to support the missions of the YWCA and Spokanimal, organizations that benefit the victims of domestic violence and their pets. Any support, financial or through participation in the event is truly appreciated as we gather to honor the memory and legacy of Sativa.
