Ideas, Innovation, Inspiration: Global Entrepreneurship Month

Get Involved with Global Entrepreneurship Month – November 2019

article written by Susan Joseph Nielsen, Commerce's Rural Service Manager

Every day in every city throughout our state, nation and world, businesses and innovators are driving the global economy through entrepreneurial thoughts and actions. The world is a better a place because an idea, a thought, an approach or a different or better way to do or make something went from an idea to action.

Global Entrepreneurship Month (GEM) is an entire month dedicated to sparking ideas and innovations into the minds of young people, budding entrepreneurs and established professionals. It draws its inspiration from Global Entrepreneurship Week, a worldwide celebration in more than 130 countries.

Again this November, the Department of Commerce is highlighting the entrepreneurial activities, events and activities statewide and in your community during GEM, through the StartUp Washington website: http://bit.ly/wa-gem.

Students in our schools and colleges are dreaming up innovative ways to change their communities and the world. Professionals are finding better ways to make everything work smarter, faster and easier. What’s your idea? How can you support entrepreneurial and innovating thinking and actions in your community, organization or service group?

If you have an entrepreneurial idea or activity slated for November, or want to join the GEM movement this year, send the date, time, location and website link describing the activity to Commerce’s Rural Services Manager Susan Joseph Nielsen, susan.nielsen@commerce.wa.gov, 509.220.6048, so it can be included with the statewide GEM information listing on the StartUp Washington website.
