In the 2017-2018 FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Challenge, students ages 9 to 14 in 80 countries will make a splash with HYDRO DYNAMICS. In the Spokane area, there are (or will be) 100+ teams of students researching this theme. The regional competition will be December 9 and 10, 2017, with approximately 50 teams each day at Salk Middle School in Spokane, WA.
FLL is looking for judges who have a knowledge in water and can meet with teams: Project Judges, Robot Design and Programming Judges, and Core Values Judges. Read more about the FLL season.
FLL teams prepare for a competition day in the region that includes a research project presentation, a robot game (Lego Mindstorms EV3), and also judging sessions on robot design and programming, and Core Values/teamwork. The regional competitions will be December 9/10, 2017, with approximately 50 teams each day at Salk Middle School, Spokane. As the Spokane Region FLL Volunteer Coordinator, my committee is looking for Judges who can help with the competition day. Working in pairs, judges listen to 7- 8 teams’ presentations and rate them according to a scoring rubric sheet during the morning. Then in the afternoon they meet with the other 6-7 judge pairs who also listened to 7 presentations and rank the teams for the awards. This promises to be a full and rewarding day, and we hope that you will want to take part.

FIRST programs are a major venue for encouraging interest and excitement for science and engineering in children. FIRST programs are volunteer-led by after school programs in schools, by youth organizations (Girl Scouts, 4-H) and by neighborhood groups. Thanks for your support of this STEM opportunity in our community. Reply (to Lorna) with your willingness to serve and we will send you a link to register for the orientation. The USFIRST VIMS volunteer system will be up for registrations shortly. If you registered last year, returning to the system this year should be easy, as you are previously screened.
