WSU Health Sciences Spokane Stages Zombie Themed STEM Camp

The Richland School District Zombie Themed STEM Camp connected middle school students with WSU Health Sciences Spokane programs earlier this summer to learn more about pathways to health sciences careers. The learning was packed with fun experiences. Students learned the value of exercise and nutrition when completing a zombie challenge course with Nutrition and Exercise Physiology. They learned from Nursing how to assess an emergency situation, revive each other and recover from a zombie attack. They experienced a silent lunch after they were “infected” with the zombie virus and had to employ new ways to communicate with each other when ordering their food and playing games during the lunch time. Pharmacy helped them understand the power of medicine in recovering from a zombie attack and learned how to create special lip balm to protect themselves from future attacks. They rounded out the day with Medicine, learning how to provide wound care and the skill of suturing after a zombie attack. It was a day of fun learning with the health sciences programs at WSU Spokane.

We look forward to seeing these students on our campus in the future as college students!
