The Inland Northwest Lighthouse for the Blind in Spokane is one of those feel-good stories in itself. The manufacturing company hires blind employees to manufacture goods, mainly for the U.S. Government. The company hopes to get more public contracts, as well as expand its offices here in Spokane. Executive Director Kevin Daniel, who himself is legally blind, is quite the visionary. You may have read about him in this article from The Spokesman-Review.

Starting Wednesday, Daniel will travel to Cincinnati for the 2010 NIB/NAEPB Annual Training Conference. He’ll travel alongside Kurt Lantz, the Employee of the Year for the Spokane office. Kurt will have the chance to be named NIB/NAEPB Employee of the Year. Lantz already has the local title attached to his name, but wouldn’t it be great if one of Spokane’s own was the national Employee of the Year?

The conference starts Wednesday with the theme, “AbilityOne: People Make it Happen,” which is fitting because without people like Kevin Daniel making things happen, what options would blind people have to make a living?

Let’s wish Kevin and Kurt luck as they head to Cincinnati!

We have some photos up on our Facebook page, but read on for some samples…..
