Let’s face it. There are so many good reasons to live in Spokane, we’d blow our servers on this blog listing them all. With affordable housing, great schools, the two biggest state parks, five incredible ski resorts all within a two-hour drive, golf courses that Jack Nicklaus admires, and so much more, why would we want to live somewhere else?
Living in Spokane also allows us to enjoy a great summer. Let’s take a look at ten reasons summer in Spokane is simply the best.
On to the list….
Hoopfest
This seems to be the kickoff to summer, and the 22nd Hoopfest was a big success last weekend. How many other cities across the nation shut down the downtown streets in favor of street basketball? Spokane embraces this event every year.
76 Regional Lakes
A summer day on the lake is one of the best feelings. It’s just you, the water, a boat, a beverage and the sun. With so many lake options nearby, you and your family will definitely find many you enjoy.
Mountain Biking
We’re not completely sure, but we’re confident that you could, theoretically, ride a different trail each day of the year around Spokane. Riverside State Park is prime property to crank. Beacon Hill in Spokane Valley has tracks that a seasoned vet would be proud of.
Hiking
Much like mountain biking, hiking in Spokane is abundant. Riverside State Park, Mt. Spokane, Dishman Hills Area and Liberty Lake are just a few of the places you’ll be able to hike in a day.
Wineries
Have you been to Arbor Crest yet? If you live in Spokane, this is a must. The incredible view of Spokane Valley on a warm summer evening, coupled with some wine and live music makes Spokane summer nights bliss. Don’t forget to check out Latah Creek and Barrister, too!
Skyfest
OK, so technically, this comes every other summer, but if you live in Spokane, chances are you’ll be here for at least two summers, right? Skyfest has featured the Thunderbirds, the Blue Angels and many other types of aircraft soaring over Fairchild Air Force Base. It’s quite the sight to see.
No Humidity
Those that have lived in humid parts of the country know what we’re talking about. Spokane’s dry, pleasant summers are perfect for spending time outdoors. With the sun out later, we want to be outside on the patio, or flipping steaks on a grill. Not inside changing our shirt and socks for the third time in a day.
Centennial Trail
The trail is the perfect spot for summer running, biking, tandem biking, skating, walking, and much more. Stretching from Nine Mile Falls to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, the trail runs along the Spokane River, giving users the perfect view for more than 40 miles.
Disc Golf
Commonly referred to as “Dolf,” (Edit: also commonly referred to as Frisbee Golf, or “Frolf”) this game has a pretty good cult following around here. The two major public courses in Spokane are Downriver and High Bridge. Be careful – you might run into Bigfoot at Downriver, though.
Spokane Indians Baseball
We’re making it official: Avista Stadium is the best minor league ballpark on the West Coast. We’re very fortunate to have a great organization such as the Spokane Indians Baseball Club. The team has entertained fans for decades. The organization puts on a great presentation and has a rich history. Did you know Tommy Lasorda once managed here? Now you do!
