Ambassadors are the highly visible and well-recognized volunteer goodwill arm of GSI. They often serve as a first point of contact with businesses, and they are always on the lookout for opportunities to help your organization build new relationships and potential new business. Their burgundy jackets are a familiar sight at our events, and the energy they put toward making connections and supporting new members is legendary. Ribbon cuttings, grand openings, expansions, milestones and other celebrations – our Ambassadors are there, and they’re all about building new relationships within our growing business community!

Ambassadors represent their business or organization in a professional, engaged manner in GSI and throughout the business community. All of our Ambassadors are amazing, but we recently recognized a few of them who have truly given more than expected.

Ambassador of the Year (2014): Dexter Phillips, All Lines Insurance

Dexter is GSI’s current Ambassador Vice-Chair. He’s been part of GSI, and the Ambassador group, for about five years and he’s unwavering in his support of local business.

“The stuff we get to do, the different business owners we get to meet, it really helps build a better understanding about business in Spokane, and why things like a good education system, an educated workforce and a welcoming environment that’s startup-friendly makes the quality of life in Spokane better,” Dexter says.

Dexter says his contact with GSI – directly and indirectly – supports his business, and supports his community. Although the heightened publicity for his business is a nice perk of the Ambassador program, Dexter says he continues to volunteer his time because it makes him a better citizen, and in turn, makes his business a better business.

“Plus,” he adds, “I’ve gotten to meet a lot of really cool people.”

Ambassador of the Quarter (Fourth Quarter, 2014): Greg & Hanna Stewart-Longhurst, Stewart-Longhurst PS

Ambassador of the Quarter, for the final quarter of 2014, went to a duo! Greg and Hanna Stewart-Longhurst are fairly new to the Ambassador program, but have served as volunteers on several other committees over the years. The two had perfect attendance at all GSI Ambassador events during the fourth quarter!

Awards for Ambassador of the Year and Ambassador of the Quarter were presented during the Christmas holiday season, during an appreciation party held at the Fan Suite in River Park Square, and catered by Rock City Grill. Fabulous food and drink in a great environment – check it out next time you’re looking for a meeting space!
