GSI staff attends 2017 BIO Convention in San Diego

IMG_2101GSI staff attended the 2017 BIO Convention, which took place in San Diego, Calif. June 19 – 22. The convention attracts biotechnology and pharmaceutical leaders for one week of learning and networking.

Staff from GSI and the Health Sciences & Services Authority (HSSA) Spokane participated with 11 other organizations from Washington state. The pavilion was hosted by the Washington State Department of Commerce and was one of more than 1,300 exhibitors at the convention. GSI’s role was to promote Spokane as a great place for health and life sciences business, and to share the benefits of doing business in our region, which includes the unique research investment funding by HSSA Spokane.  Attendees also saw what other cities, states, and countries were doing in the biotechnology field.

In addition to education, networking, partnering and exhibitors, the convention included a “Startup Stadium,” where attendees could pitch a panel of investor judges and receive written feedback. Super Sessions also explored the latest on biotechnology’s hot button issues throughout the world.

A keynote at the conference included former United Kingdom Prime Minister David Cameron.

This year, more than 16,000 attendees from 74 countries and 48 states attended the convention, with 40,000 one-on-one partnering meetings taking place during the week-long event.
