Spokane business leaders to advocate for our region at nation’s capital

GSI in Washington D.C.Each year, Spokane regional business, education, and community leaders travel to Washington, D.C. to meet with our state’s elected officials and staff at the federal level, to help advance our region’s policy priorities and issues that impact your business.

The D.C. Fly-In draws more than 50 representatives from throughout our region, uniting them in one voice to highlight items in our Federal Agenda.

This year’s Federal Agenda includes items such as expansion of Pell Grants, support for funding to the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation, protection of Fairchild Air Force Base, and a wide array of business climate topics. You can view the document in its entirety on our website.

Among the highlights of the trip will be the Grand Reception at the U.S. Botanic Garden. This year, our delegation will be hosted for panel discussion and reception at the Embassy of Ireland.  Spokane has special ties with Ireland via a sister city in Limerick, in addition to a number of economic ties. Ireland has a west coast US strategy for investment, specifically with medical technology and biotech industries. Washington state leads the U.S. in exports to Ireland, which includes agriculture exports from Eastern Washington, such as hops.
