Connecting Spokane’s Life Sciences in Chicago / Seattle

Each year GSI’s Life Sciences Spokane participates in tradeshows across the country. As part of our effort to expand life sciences in the Spokane region, we attended the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society conference and sponsored an exhibit booth at Life Science Innovation Northwest (LSINW) in Seattle to bring awareness of this growing industry in our region.

HIMSS 2023 (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) was held in Chicago April 18-21, 2023. This global conference unites thought leaders, disruptors, and changemakers representing every sector across the global health information and technology spectrum. During my attendance, I was struck by the magnitude of organizations focused on the health care industry; niche companies, entrepreneurs & startups, and international corporations, all with specific products and services, comprehensive products or services, and everything in between. Listening to our health care organizations prior to my travel, I focused my learning sessions and contacts around workforce, telehealth/telemedicine, clinical trials, and contract services. For those members of the GSI Health Industry Development Group (HIDG), or those in the industry, or those simply curious, I am happy to gather and share information on my learnings and highlight the participating innovative companies.

The following week (April 25-26) was spent in Seattle at Life Science Innovation Northwest (LSINW) which is the Pacific Northwest’s largest annual life science conference. This one-and-a-half-day event brings together investors, public and private life science organizations, research institutions, scientists, entrepreneurs, and the global health community to discuss and feature some of the most compelling life science breakthroughs of our time. This event was the most attended LSINW in-person event with 674 registered attendees. GSI and HSSA (Health Science Services Authority of Spokane County) are regular partners that share our collective Spokane value proposition with those in attendance. Evergreen Bioscience Innovation Cluster (Evergreen Bio) was a popular topic at our exhibitor table. Both Erin Williams Heuter, Executive Director of HSSA and board member of Evergreen Bio, along with myself as Program/Project Manager of EBIC, enjoyed sharing the goals, successes, and strategic direction of Evergreen Bio. Awareness of the life science growth in Spokane is a consistent goal for GSI at this conference, and it cannot be minimized. We have a great story to tell including the results being achieved from the Evergreen Bio momentum while we ‘build the plane as we fly it’!
