About Greater Spokane Incorporated's Public Policy Program

Greater Spokane Incorporated works year-round with the business community to advance policies that support your business -- like lowering workers compensation and unemployment insurance, and enhancing our economy through economic development and workforce development initiatives, and facilities and infrastructure improvements. We hope you will join us in our efforts and consider getting involved in the public policy arena.

GSI Invites You to Get Involved
Get involved with us to promote pro-business policies that can help your business and many others. To get engaged in GSI's government & regulatory affairs opportunities, to participate in our regional Olympia or D.C. trips, or to become part of our Government & Regulatory Affairs Council, contact Cara Coon, VP, Communications & Public Affairs.

  • Since its formation in 2007, GSI’s advocacy efforts have resulted in more than $900 million in funding for local projects and initiatives that better our region.
  • GSI, WSU Spokane, University of Washington, and other partners worked closely together to secure $72 million in funding for the Biomedical and Health Sciences Building – a critical component of the Academic Health Sciences Center to house four years of medical education at the Riverpoint Campus. We are now continuing to work to expand medical education in our region.
  • In collaboration with more than 10 of the largest chambers of commerce in the state, GSI is working to pursue policies in workers compensation and unemployment insurance that provide cost savings to employers and reduce the regulatory burden on business.

Each year, GSI develops State and Federal Legislative Agendas that bring together, and advocate for, community interests in areas of business, transportation, education, healthcare, military affairs and more. GSI also has a lobbyist in Olympia who advocates for pro-business initiatives and a federal lobbyist in D.C. who works to connect us with congressional leaders who help advance critical community initiatives.

What Does This Mean to Your Business?

  • Your membership supports our work to advocate on your behalf, lowering your cost of doing business, and bringing more dollars into the community.
  • We help create more direct and indirect jobs, putting more people to work who spend most of their earnings right here in our community.
  • Each new job means more money spent on housing, groceries, transportation, child care, entertainment and far more – directly impacting your business.

For more information or details on how you can get involved and be part of our Public Affairs efforts, contact Cara Coon, VP, Communications & Public Affairs at 509-321-3636. Visit our staff page for a complete staff directory.
