Episode 18: NW Entrepreneur Competition Recap

Entrepreneurship education comes in many forms, and one of those is the ability to compete in some of our region’s business plan competitions, and get real feedback on your idea before your take it to the real world.

On this episode of Startup Spokane Radio we sit down with two of the previous winners from the NW Entrepreneur Competition, which finals wrapped up earlier this month over at Whitworth University. For those that arenโ€™t familiar with the competition, this has been a long standing yearly event, with teams participating from our regionโ€™s universities, colleges and high schools throughout the Inland Northwest. This year we had over 70 student teams compete with their business ideas, and over $40k awarded in cash prizes and in-kind donations to the winning groups.

Listen in as we talk to Nathan Young, who’s team Smart Alarm won 1st place in the High School Division, and Blake Lindsay, whoโ€™s team Feller Pump won 2nd place in the Emerging Category.

Some of things we touch on in this week’s podcast:

  • How was the competition process? Did it help you refine your idea?
  • What was the hardest part for your teams during the NW Entrepreneur Competition?
  • Whatโ€™s been the most difficult part of developing a new business, especially while still in school?
  • Entrepreneurship culture in the local education institutions, and how it’s affected their entrepreneurship journey.
