Cheney Future Business Leaders of America travels to National Leadership Conference

Cheney FBLA to National Leadership Conference

article written by Adam Smith, CTE Director, Cheney School District

The Cheney FBLA Club (Future Business Leaders of America) finished their trip to the National FBLA Leadership conference a couple of weeks ago. In competition, our chapter had 14 members compete in eight different events. Our only national placer this year was Megumi Call who placed 2nd in the nation in Electronic Career Portfolio.

Electronic Career Portfolio is an event where Megumi prepared a seven minute presentation on her chosen career and what she has done in preparation for this career. Elements she needed to display included classes taken, job shadows completed, necessary skills learned and career pathway research. Megumi presented on her career and passion in Architecture.  She graduated this spring from CHS and is headed to study architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY.

While all of our teams competed at a very high level, only one of our Network Design teams made top 15 in the nation. Our team of Rose Stevens, Holden McNaul and Jackson Schreiber took a test and scored in the top 15 in the nation.

The FBLA National Leadership conference was held in Baltimore, MD on June 29 through July 2 and was attended by over 12,000 students and advisors.
