Who are you and your company?
I’m in my eighth year as the superintendent of West Valley School District and I’m in my 31st year in the district where I’ve been a teacher, coach, principal, and central office administrator.
What role/or industry do you represent on the STEM Executive Committee?
My involvement with Spokane STEM is driven by my desire to have each WV student graduate ready for success in college, career, and citizenship. To do that in 2019 and beyond students have to be STEM literate and STEM skilled.
What does STEM mean to you? And why do you feel STEM is important?
I believe STEM is a key ingredient to a happy and healthy life for humans on our planet.
Looking ahead, what would 1-2 things would you like to see happen in Spokane?
Meaningful career internships and exposure for every high school graduate.
Why is it important to have a regional leadership team for statewide work?
This work is too difficult and too important to be done in a piecemeal fashion. To achieve our regional STEM goals will require an organized effort / partnership with and between K-12 education, higher education, community organizations, and business.
