2016 Greater Spokane Incorporated State Legislative Priority Agenda

2015_LR-Panel-1_webAt last night’s Legislative Forum & Reception we heard from a panel of state representatives, including Speaker of the House Frank Chopp and Senate Majority Leader Mark Schoesler. Much of the discussion centered around the 2016 State Legislative Priority Agenda, which represents a targeted advocacy approach for our region. With a prioritized agenda, GSI and Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce and West Plains Chamber of Commerce is able to target specific legislative goals and unify the community around the most essential items that have the broadest regional impact. This agenda helps us to focus each year’s energies on the issues that matter most, and serves as our guide during the annual Olympia Fly-in each January.

Each year, GSI invites members of the community to bring forward issues and projects to be considered for the State Legislative Priority Agenda. Submissions are vetted through the Public Policy sub-committees, Public Policy Council, and finally the Board of Trustees. Some of the issues included in this years agenda are Workers’ Compensation reform, funding K-12 education, and supporting regional transportation projects.

Your voice matters. Make sure your voice is part of the conversation – get involved with GSI’s Public Policy and advocacy efforts.

GSI’s Public Policy committees play a major role in the development of each year’s agenda. If you’d like to take part in the process, contact Public Policy Coordinator Sarah Dice.

Join business and community leaders on our annual Olympia Fly-in trip to meet with elected officials and top staff at the state level, to help advance our region’s policy priorities and issues that impact your business. You’ll make new contacts and build solid relationships at our high-level receptions throughout the trip.

If you’d like to be part of the unified legislative advocacy delegation of community leaders and regional business representatives that head to the state capitol in January, contact Carsen Quinnett or visit our Olympia and DC Flyin page.
